How Does Acupuncture Work? Part 5

Acupuncture affects weight loss

The Hypothalamus Theory proposed by Dr. Oz states that acupuncture has an effect on obesity-related hormones - namely ghrelin and leptin - that regulate meal initiation, fat storage, and metabolism. The hypothalamus is responsible for maintaining homeostasis in the body and functions as the control center for hormones and neurochemicals that govern body temperature, circadian rhythm, thirst, and hunger. This means acupuncture can help to curb appetite, quell cravings, improve digestion, and enhance the way nutrients are used. It can also strengthen the function of the liver, the organ which produces many enzymes necessary for digestion, processing of nutrients, and the breakdown of fats and toxins in the body.
