Summer, Fire, and Your Heart

Father's Day reminds us to cherish the people closest to our hearts. In TCM, the Heart governs not only circulation, but also emotional balance, connection, and joy. As we move through the Fire season of summer, it's a perfect time to care for both our relationships and our heart health.

In our 2026 Wellness Guide from earlier this year, we talked about how 2026 is governed by Bing Fire over Wu Fire, making this a year where Fire energy is especially prominent. Fire is associated with the Heart system, which governs cardiovascular function, emotional regulation, mental clarity, and sleep.

Now we're entering summer, the season that already belongs to Fire. When a Fire year meets the Fire season, the Heart system carries a heavier load than usual. You may have already noticed: restless sleep, heart palpitations, heightened anxiety, flushing or night sweats, and scattered thinking are all common this year. These are the body's response to elevated Fire energy.

Here's what we recommend to stay balanced.

Supporting Your Heart and Body

We carry two herbal supplements that are well-suited for this season.

Cardio+Flow is centered around Panax Notoginseng (San Qi), one of the most valued herbs in Chinese medicine for cardiovascular support. It also helps promote healthy circulation and support blood vessel integrity. In TCM terms, it moves blood, resolves stasis, and supports the Heart's ability to circulate freely. In a Fire-dominant year, this kind of targeted support makes a real difference.

Muscle REx combines Panax Notoginseng with Turmeric, Tart Cherry, and Rodgersia Sambucifolia, a plant shown to reduce muscle tension by up to 40% in clinical studies. When Fire is elevated, inflammation tends to follow, and this formula helps reduce soreness and support recovery. It's plant-based, vegan, and designed for anyone dealing with muscle discomfort from exercise, desk work, or daily wear.

Both products are available in our office.

Eat to Cool and Nourish

We often recommend a Mediterranean-style approach to eating because it aligns well with both modern nutrition and TCM principles.

Focus on:

  • Cooked vegetables, legumes, and whole grains

  • Healthy fats such as olive oil, walnuts, and fatty fish

  • Dark leafy greens and bitter foods

  • Cooling foods like watermelon, cucumber, pears, mung beans, and mint tea

Try to limit excess sugar, fried foods, and alcohol, which can contribute to internal heat and inflammation.

Consider Qi Gong

Qi Gong is a gentle practice that combines movement, breathing, and mindfulness. It helps:

  • Calm the nervous system

  • Support circulation

  • Reduce stress and anxiety

  • Improve sleep quality

Even 10–15 minutes a day can help balance the body's energy during the summer months.

Feng Shui Tip of the Week

Cooling the Fire at Home with Water. In Feng Shui, the west side of the home is associated with Metal energy, which naturally helps regulate excess Fire.

This week, try this simple practice:

Wash 6 quarters very cleanly with salt then wash off to have pure energy, then place them in a round ceramic or glass bowl of water. Set the bowl somewhere on the west side of your home. The Metal (coins) and Water (bowl) work together to absorb and cool the excess Fire energy of the season.

This will keep the energy feel harmonized within your household

Wishing you a cool, balanced, and healthy summer.
